New Hampshire’s housing shortage has become one of the most pressing challenges for the state, its communities, and its residents. A limited supply of homes, rising rents and purchase prices, and increasing housing costs overall have made finding affordable, stable housing difficult for many Granite Staters.

Housing affordability affects not only individuals and families, but also employers’ ability to attract and retain workers and the strength of local economies. 

NHFPI examines trends in housing affordability, housing supply, rental and homeownership markets, homelessness, and related policy issues. Our research explores the connections between housing, workforce participation, economic opportunity, and community well-being, while analyzing public policies that can help expand housing options and improve affordability for Granite Staters.
