The State government passed legislation during the 2024 session to create and implement a child care workforce assistance project lasting from January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025. This project expands eligibility for the New Hampshire Child Care Scholarship (NHCCS) to child care professionals who work at least 25 hours per week in licensed child care facilities that accept NHCCS and live in “[h]ouseholds with an income equal to or less than the median income for the geographic area in which they reside”. If the state median income (SMI) is used for implementation of this project, child care professionals in a four-person household may be eligible to receive a Child Care Scholarship if their household earns no more than $133,449 annually. This legislation expands upon the standard NHCCS household eligibility of up to 85 percent of SMI and was enacted to help determine if expanded assistance increases recruitment and retention of child care professionals.
