Medicaid Expansion Helps Expand Access to Health Care in Rural New Hampshire Communities

Granite Staters in communities across New Hampshire have greater access to health care through Medicaid Expansion, with enrollment rates higher in rural regions of the state. In rural communities, Medicaid Expansion has both increased access to health care coverage and infused federal dollars into local economies, particularly helping small, rural hospitals. Rural hospitals can provide critical health services that could otherwise be difficult to access in these communities, and research indicates rural hospital closures are associated with local employment declines.
