Faster Growth Among Racial and Ethnic Minority Groups Has Led to a More Diverse Granite State Population

Although Granite Staters identifying as non-Hispanic white comprised about 88.5 percent of the population in July 2023, this group has experienced smaller population growth compared to those identifying as members of a racial or ethnic minority group. From 2020 to 2023, the percentage of the population identifying as a racial or ethnicity minority group increased by about 9.7 percent; in contrast, the number identifying as non-Hispanic white grew by about 1.3 percent. Those who identified as Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander experienced the largest increase in terms of the percentage of the population from 2020, at about 14.5 percent, with those identifying as Hispanic or Latino of any race experiencing the second largest increase, at about 13.2 percent.
