Renters with low incomes in New Hampshire may be facing significant difficulty affording rental costs, according to recently updated data encompassing averages over the 2016-2020 time period. During this period, about three-quarters of renter households with incomes below $35,000 per year paid over a third of their incomes on rent. Households paying more than 30 percent of their income on housing are considered cost-burdened and may have difficulty covering other expenses, such as food, clothing, transportation, or medical costs.
